Welcome to the Cuthbert Club Funtime Memorial page of 10 July 2010. Randle friends from all over the globe again gathered together at Carleton Cemetery
to unveil Frank's newly restored gravestone which was made possibly by donations big and small* (see Cuthbert Club for details). After suitably toasting King Twist's final resting place, the action moved to the North Pier where a reet good do was fettled by all at the side of the Frank Randle Blue Plaque.
* HEARTFELT thanks to everyone who helped financially and every which way - and especial thanks to Slim Ingram for steering the project.

Frank's gravestone was virtually unreadable (see below) and the Cuthbert Club are proud to have raised the funds necessary for a complete refurbishment ready for this July's Frank's Day ...

FRANK RANDLE'S GRAVE - the restoration story:

FRANK RANDLE'S GRAVESTONE REFURBISHMENT PROJECT WAS FULLY FUNDED BY THE GENEROUS DONATIONS MADE BY THE FOLLOWING CUTHBERT CLUB MEMBERS AND FRIENDS:

THANKS TO: (alphabetical order) -

Arthur Casson, Bill Wheeler, Bryan Leonard, Chris Carson, Cuthbert and Mrs Cuthbert, David Harding, David Pyper, Derek Kosky, Diane Speakman, The Eccles & District History Society, George Kelsall, James Ward, John Burscough, Jolly Roger, Ken Bowe, Leslie Davies, Lord Dave (Fowell) and Lady Julia of Chester, Mike Hudson, Neil Hemsley, North-West Film Archive, Paul Culkin, Phil Baker, Philip and David Williams, Rick and Albert Gallagher, Slim Ingram, Stan and Jude Challis, Steve Robinson, T Lancaster, Ted Martin, Tim and Mary Gill, Tony Hannan, Tony Hilton, Tony Wright, Trevor Hoyle.

The refurbishment of Frank Randle's original gravestone involved its removal, refacing and relettering before being put back in place for the unveiling ceremony on Saturday 10th July at Carleton Cemetery.

The lettering is now clear for all to read including the inscription taken from the words found jotted on a scrap of paper tucked inside Randle's wallet by his wife Queenie.

At the start of the project we needed to collect £295 to have a 'marker' placed on Frank's gravestone but because Blackpool Council rejected the original idea of a marker we proceeded with the bigger, better refacing solution.

We are very grateful to Slim Ingram who negotiated with the Cemeteries & Crematorium Manager and Blackpool Council to come up with an agreement regarding this complete refurbishment project and over £495 was raised to pay for this (see above).

Frank Randle FUNTIME MEMORIAL Day 10 July 2010

The annual paying respects at Frank's graveside began as usual in Cath's Cafe at Carleton Cemetery. Val and Lee Mannering prepared their camera to film the day's events as people gathered and met over coffee and cakes and afterwards the refreshed throng followed Mr and Mrs Cuthbert to Frank's newly restored gravestone. The bubbly flowed as Cuthbert and Slim Ingram pronounced it unveiled and to share in this great event were many local Randle fans including Arthur and June Casson, Ken Bowe, Dougie Chapman, Pete Lindup as well as Phil Baker and Steve King. Stalwart Cuthbertonians at the graveside were Colin Daffern, Ken Birch, Lord and Lady 'David and Julia' Chester, Stan and Jude Challis, Brian and Iris Bettles were all alongside the filmmakers Lee and Val.

We were joined at the graveside by the ghosts of Jimmy Clitheroe, Norman Evans and Arthur Worsley who followed us back into Blackpool for the afternoon's high spirits on the North Pier where we met up with members of The North West Music Hall and Variety Friendship Society.

We've included some candid snaps from both of the two main events - and this year there was an evening component - Salford Funny Man Dave Starkey provided the show at The Gynn pub - see below!!!
